Mission Green Light's Free Breast Health Education Initiative (BHEI) for Uninsured Women under the ages of 35

Mission Green Light’s Free Breast Health Education Initiative (BHEI) focuses on uninsured, under-privileged, less-educated women between the ages of 18 and 34. Our objective is to nurture in these young women through education and awareness the habit of monthly breast self-examination for early detection of cancer; as they may not be entitled for free breast cancer exams and free mammograms, under the State Program, till they reach the age of 35. Our program aims to develop in them the importance of taking responsibility for their healthcare and well-being. Last year, we trained 110 uninsured, underprivileged, and less- educated Hispanic Women through our Free Breast Health Education Initiative (BHEI)

Through our Free Breast Health Education Initiative, we send young, uninsured, less educated, and underprivileged women to the clinics where they receive breast clinical examination. The doctors practically and individually teach them how to do proper monthly breast self-examination. They also inform them about the symptoms and signs of breast cancer. Reading material on breast health is provided to them during their visit. We believe that it is this individual attention in a clinical environment which is normally not available to many uninsured women create a powerful impression in their minds to take responsibility for their healthcare and well-being.

Out of these young women, the ones that qualify as our Breast Cancer Education & Awareness Volunteers teach other young uninsured women the importance of monthly breast self-examination in their communities. Also, their responsibility is to inform uninsured women of ages 35 and above about free cancer screening through Illinois Breast & Cervical Program (IBCCP).

We started Mission Green Light with just $2 from a corner of a room in Glenview Terrace Nursing Home. It is very difficult to do anything without money. It is our faith to make a little difference that keeps us going. We request you to please donate $5 (Five Dollars) towards our Free Breast Health Education Initiative.
